This infrared black & white photograph was taken in the rolling hills of Val d’Orcia, Tuscany. Using infrared allowed me to reveal the landscape in an otherworldly way: the cypress trees stand like quiet figures, the fields glow softly, and the sky deepens into dramatic contrast. Without color, the scene becomes pure light and form, capturing the timeless stillness of this place. The image holds the silence I felt there, a peaceful moment suspended in time.

The story:

This infrared black & white photograph was created in Val d’Orcia, Tuscany a landscape known for its graceful rolling hills and iconic cypress groves. Working in infrared allowed me to capture the scene in a way that feels dreamlike and timeless. The grass takes on a soft, glowing tone, while the sky deepens into dramatic darkness, making the clouds appear sculptural and full of movement.

In this setting, the cypress trees stand together like quiet silhouettes on the horizon, almost as if they are keeping watch over the land. Without the distraction of color, the focus shifts to shape, contrast, and atmosphere. The result is a scene that feels calm, expansive, and otherworldly: almost as though it exists outside of time.

This image reflects the quiet I experienced while standing there: a still, peaceful moment held in light and shadow. Perfect for spaces that invite reflection, calm, or a sense of open landscape.
