Cleaning Your Mounted Fine Art Photograph
Exercise extreme caution when cleaning the surface of your fine art photograph. Gently dust the picture glazing with a soft, damp cloth or chamois. Apply only light pressure, rinse with clean water, and dry by blotting. Avoid dry or gritty cloths, as they can scratch the surface and create static electricity.
Do not use window cleaners, scouring agents, or solvents such as acetone, gasoline, or lacquer thinner, as these may permanently damage your image.
Cleaning the Frame
Wood frames feature a protective wax finish that typically requires only periodic dusting. Use a soft, dry cloth to remove debris or spots. Avoid liquid or chemical cleaners, as they can degrade the protective finish. For black cube and stainless steel frames, a high-quality microfiber cloth may be used with light pressure, followed by blotting with clean water.
To clean the liner, we recommend using compressed or canned air, ensuring no moisture is expelled during the process.
Lighting Your Photograph
Proper lighting involves a combination of spot and spread lighting. The exact setup depends on the distance of the fixture from the artwork. While multiple bulbs can suffice, MR16 halogen bulbs are ideal for even illumination, as used in all Michal Mierzejewski galleries. Consult an electrician or lighting professional to achieve the best presentation for your art.
Environmental Considerations
Michal Mierzejewski Fine Art prints are produced with advanced technology and the finest archival materials, including UV protection. However, to preserve your artwork, avoid direct sunlight, high humidity, and excessive heat.
- Temperatures above 24°C (75°F), direct sunlight, or humidity over 60% can damage your photograph, potentially causing fading or bubbling on mounted surfaces.
